With 38 of the 54 African States being coastal States and 13 million square kilometres of maritime zones and approximately 6.5 million square kilometres over the continental shelf under Africa’s jurisdiction, the wealth of natural resources found in the oceans and seas surrounding the African continent has led to a growing interest in the sustainable development of the African blue economy.
