The thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) marks a significant milestone in the history of international ocean governance. Over the past three decades, ISA has emerged as a central institution of global ocean architecture, safeguarding the common heritage of humankind and charting a course towards the responsible and sustainable exploitation of seabed mineral resources for the benefit of all.

Kingston, Jamaica – 12 November 2024 — The International Seabed Authority Partnership Fund (ISAPF) Board convened its fourth and last meeting of 2024 today, marking a year of unprecedented achievement in advancing international cooperation in deep-sea research and exploration in the international seabed area (the Area) while building and developing the capacities of hundreds of experts from developing States, totalling USD1.2 million of investment in support of the stewardship of the Area.

Workshop on the development of a Regional Environmental Management Plan for the Area of the Indian Ocean, with a focus on the Mid-Ocean Ridges and Central Indian Ocean Basin

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is calling for the nomination of experts and the submission of scientific information for the upcoming workshop on the development of a Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) for the Area of the Indian Ocean, with a focus on the Mid-Ocean Ridges and Central Indian Ocean Basin. The workshop will be held in Qingdao, China, from 27 April to 1 May 2025.

ISA concludes the sixth virtual end-of-training certificate presentation ceremony for beneficiaries of the Contractors’ Training Programme

Kingston, Jamaica – 17 October 2024 — The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) hosted its sixth annual ceremony to present end-of-training certificates to nationals from developing States who benefited from opportunities provided by ISA Contractors under the Contractors’ Training Programme (CTP) in 2023 and 2024.
