ISA-Egypt Training Session on REMPs for the Indian Ocean concludes in Alexandria
Alexandria, Egypt (20 – 25 September 2026) – After a week of training, 21 participants from 12 African and Asian countries (Cameroon, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Somalia, Tanzania, and Yemen) completed a session on the Scientific and Technical Aspects related to Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMPs) in the Area, with a focus on the Indian Ocean on Friday, 25 September.

Empowering Ocean Scientists: ISA Concludes Deep-Sea Macrofauna Taxonomy School in India
Kochi, India (7 -11 September 2026) – After a week of hands-on training, 25 specialists from 13 developing countries across the Indian Ocean region concluded the Deep-Sea Macrofauna Taxonomy School on Friday, 11 September, in Kochi, India. Organized by the International Seabed Authority, the workshop focused on standardizing methodologies for deep-sea biodiversity assessments, including sampling, identification, and curation of deep-sea macrofauna.

Moscow and Vladivostok, Russian Federation (31 August – 4 September 2026) – My first official visit to the Russian Federation since taking office as Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority provided me with an opportunity to recognize first-hand, through a series of high-level engagements, this Member State’s important role in the exploration regime of the Area, as well as its continued support for multilateralism and the central role of the ISA under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
