PRISA Russia 2021

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Sergey Petrovich, presented his credentials to ISA Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, during a ceremony held today in Kingston, Jamaica.

Ambassador Petrovich is a career diplomat who joined the Russian diplomatic service in 1993. He is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Jamaica and the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ISA.

“The Russian Federation attaches great importance to the work of ISA and the law of the sea and has continuously contributed to the activities of the Authority since its foundation in 1994 as a member of the Council and one of the largest sponsoring States,” Ambassador Petrovich said during the ceremony.

He further stressed that, “Russia stands ready to support ISA in the implementation of its obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and to share the knowledge of the ocean and the seabed accumulated by generations of Russian scientists for the benefit of mankind”.

Secretary-General Lodge welcomed Ambassador Petrovich as the new Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ISA. “I acknowledge with appreciation the long-standing commitment of the Russian Federation to the law of the sea and the scientific efforts made by Russian contractors over decades of deep-sea exploration,” he said.

Prior to this assignment, Mr. Petrovich served as Deputy Director of the Second European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (2012-2021), as Minister Counsellor of the Russian Federation in Ireland, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation in Ireland (2008-2012) and worked at the Russian Embassy in Sweden (2000-2005 and 1993-1997).

Mr. Petrovich graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1993.
