The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), together with the United Nations Technology Bank for least developed countries (UNTBLDC), calls for expression of interest from research fellows from Tanzania and Nepal to apply to one of the two three-month research fellowships with ISA Secretariat in Kingston, Jamaica, until 31 October 2023 7 December 2023.
The main objective of such fellowships is two-fold. Firstly, build on existing capacity development initiatives to provide researchers with technical skills on deep-seabed related matters. Secondly, enable the ISA Secretariat to benefit from the contribution of such research experts with a view of advancing specific tasks identified in partnership with the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC).
During the research fellowship, the two selected fellows will work on (i) supporting the Office of Environmental Management and Mineral Resources of the ISA Secretariat ), (ii) scientifically structuring the data collected in ISA’s database with the ISA Secretariat and the data management group of the Legal and Technical Commission, (iii) supporting the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of ISA in relation to ocean governance, ocean/blue economy policy and capacity development and (iv) fostering cooperation with local universities (geoscience) with a view to increase awareness about the work of ISA.
Applicants should be post-doctoral or doctoral researchers at the time of selection with the required education and/or background in geoscience (geology, geochemistry, geophysics, marine geoscience will be considered an added advantage) and/or environmental economy and policy studies focusing on raw materials.
