H.E. Ms. Angella Comfort presented her credentials to the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, as the Permanent Representative of Jamaica to ISA, during a ceremony held in Kingston, Jamaica, on 6 July 2023.
Ambassador Comfort is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign Service in 1983 and held various high-level positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica. Before this appointment, Ambassador Comfort served as the High Commissioner of Jamaica to the Republic of South Africa and the non-resident High Commissioner of Jamaica to the Republics of Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Ambassador Comfort has undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics and social sciences. She currently occupies the Under-Secretary position in the Multilateral Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Comfort reiterated Jamaica’s commitment to advancing the work of ISA. “I commit to advancing the work of ISA on Jamaica’s behalf and emphasize that, as a host country of ISA, Jamaica remains committed to facilitating and advancing the work of ISA by promoting shared principles and a common position among Member States,” she said.
Secretary-General Lodge welcomed Ambassador Comfort as the new Permanent Representative of Jamaica to ISA. “It is a great pleasure to welcome Ambassador Comfort as the new Permanent Representative of Jamaica to ISA. I look forward to furthering what is already a very strong and productive relationship with our host country in support of our mandate and responsibilities,” he said.
