Nominations are now open for the Third Edition of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Secretary-General’s Award for Excellence in Deep Sea Research.
Launched at the ISA Assembly in July 2018, the Award recognizes and encourages the achievements of young researchers from developing countries who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge of the deep-sea environment, or to the development of environmentally sustainable regulatory frameworks.
The Secretary-General’s Award is one of the seven Voluntary Commitments made by ISA at the UN Ocean Conference in 2017 to advance implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. #OceanAction15796
Nominations should consist of the following documents:
- A letter, not exceeding 750 words, from the nominator summarizing the research and outlining the national or international significance of the work submitted;
- The curriculum vitae of the candidate;
- Any publication derived from the research undertaken; and
- Two letters from sponsors outlining the type and impact of the research carried out by the nominee and attesting to its significance and quality.
Nominations are open to candidates from developing States, members of ISA, under the age of 35 and which the results of the research for which the nomination is submitted should have been published no earlier than one year prior.
