The event will discuss the importance of marine scientific research, technology and capacity-building to facilitate the participation of African countries in activities in the Area and promote the sustainable use of oceans, including the maritime zones around Africa. The event also aims to stimulate the dialogue among policy makers and the scientific community on the blue economy of Africa and the energy transition needed to achieve the targets of the Paris Agreement.

The event will be facilitated by Dr. Suzan El-Gharabawy, Head of the Marine Geophysics Department at NIOF and Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission’s Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States.
