Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Mr. Michael Lodge today welcomed H.E. Lumka Yengeni, as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa to ISA.
Ambassador Yengeni was recently appointed as High Commissioner-designate of South Africa to Jamaica, and has been a Member of Parliament of South Africa’s National Assembly since 2004. She is also an active member of the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party.
Receiving the Ambassador’s official credentials in Kingston today, Mr Lodge highlighted the important contribution South Africa has made to the work of ISA.
“South Africa has been a vital and active member of ISA since it was established 25 years ago, and we look forward to continuing our long-standing and productive relationship under Ambassador Yengeni’s leadership.”
Ambassador Yengeni is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and currently holds the position of Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Labour.
She also held the position of Member of the Standing Committee on Appropriations from 2011 to 2014 and Member of the Portfolio Committee on Communications in Parliament from 2009 to 2011.
