Today, the Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Edward Aníbal Pérez Reyes, presented his credentials to ISA Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, during a ceremony held in Kingston, Jamaica.
Ambassador Pérez is a career diplomat with over fifteen years of experience at the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his country. He was designated Permanent Representative to ISA on 16 September 2020.
“The Dominican Republic is committed to the institutional strengthening of ISA, as well as to the protection of the ocean and the sustainable use of the marine resources located in the international seabed area. Ocean diplomacy is one of the priorities of the Dominican Foreign Policy. This is reflected in the dynamic work being carried out by the country within the framework of ISA, and in international organizations such as the United Nations,” said Ambassador Pérez. “As Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to ISA, we wish to express our sincerest honour in having been elected as Vice President of the 26th Session of the Assembly on behalf of the Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries. The Dominican Republic affirms its diligence in continuing to advance towards the common objectives of all Member States, based on dialogue and agreements,” he added.
Receiving the Ambassador’s official credentials, Mr. Lodge said: “The Dominican Republic has been an active member of ISA since it became party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 2009, and we look forward to continuing our productive relationship under Ambassador Pérez’s leadership.”
Ambassador Pérez has been Alternate Representative of the Mission of the Dominican Republic to the Organization of American States since 2013. Prior to this assignment, he served as Alternate Representative of the Mission of the Dominican Republic to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland (2010-2013); Counselor of the Dominican Delegation to UNESCO, in Paris, France (2007-2010) and Counselor of the Dominican Embassy in Berlin, Germany (2005-2007).
Mr. Pérez holds a PhD in Government and Public Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid and the Ortega y Gasset University Institute as well as a master’s degree in Law, Economics and Public Policy, also from the Ortega y Gasset University Institute.
