The 26th Session of the ISA Assembly was declared open today by the President of the 25th Session, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, who also submitted to all members of ISA a draft decision on the procedure for adoption of decisions by the Assembly through a silence procedure, similar to the process adopted by the 30th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

It is further proposed by the President that the Assembly takes decisions relating to the election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the 26th Session, the appointment of the members of the Credentials Committee, the adoption of the agenda and the organization of work of the Assembly.

The Secretary-General of ISA, Mr. Michael W. Lodge, thanked the President for her leadership and ongoing support to the successful convening of the meetings and welcomed the opening of the 26th session.

The face-to-face meetings of the 26th Session of the Assembly have been further postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are most likely to take place in early December 2020.

The Assembly is comprised of all 168 members of ISA, including 167 States and the European Union.
