Global Sea Mineral Resources NV (GSR) is offering one (1) training opportunity for candidates from developing States as part of its 2026 training programme pursuant to its contract for exploration for polymetallic nodules signed with ISA on 14 January 2013.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

The selected candidate will complete an internship in deep-sea technology at the GSR in Antwerp, Belgium with access to the GSR/DEME engineering desks.

The internship will be done under the supervision of GSR’s engineering team and will see the trainee participating in specific and short-term engineering work in the development of deep-sea technology, during the study phase. It will also be combined with an introduction to the dredging industry at the DEME-Group, leader in offshore engineering (dredging, offshore windfarms, etc.) and environmental remediation.

Further, the internship will require a desk study and bibliography research, the results of which will be compiled and detailed in a training report.

DURATION

The internship will span eight (8) to twelve (12) weeks, approximately from November to December 2026. The exact dates and duration of the internship will be determined between the selected candidate and GSR.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

Education: Holder of a master’s degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering in offshore building engineering.

Work Experience: Preferably 1 to 5 years of experience.

Language: Proof of sufficient knowledge of English (spoken and written), as required.

Age: Under 35 years old

COST BEARING

GSR will cover all relevant costs for the training, including visa fee, international airfare (economy class, return ticket), local transportation, lodging and meals.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate will be required to sign the ISA Contractors’ Training Programme Code of Conduct for Trainees prior to the start of the internship. The selected candidate must strictly adhere to all conditions contained in the ISA Code of Conduct.

No later than four (4) weeks after the training has ended, the trainee shall submit an end-of-training report to GSR and ISA outlining, amongst other things, the training completed, the benefits of the training opportunity, the knowledge gained and how the training will advance their career/educational pursuits.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the trainee shall receive certificates. The trainee shall also be required to submit a supplementary report to ISA five (5) years after the training has been completed, to allow for an assessment of the long-term benefits of the programme.
