Standardized approach to the development, approval and review of REMPs
As requested by the Council, the Legal and Technical Commission is developing a standardized procedure for the development, establishment and review of regional environmental management plans (REMPs) in the Area.
During the 29th Session of the Council held in July 2024, the Legal and Technical Commission presented recommendations on the draft standardized procedure to the Council (ISBA/29/C/10), which was accompanied by the recommendations on technical guidance in support of the implementation of the standardized procedure (ISBA/29/LTC/8).
Following deliberations, the Council invited member States and observers of the Authority to provide comments by 25 October, 2024 (ISBA/29/C/24). The comments are to be submitted to the Authority for the Commission’s consideration in the further development of the standardized procedure.
