Promoting deep-sea literacy

Overview

This Voluntary Commitment was registered at the 2022 UN Ocean Conference as #OceanAction48514. It puts the promotion of deep-sea literacy for people of all ages at the heart of a series of cooperations with international and regional scientific communities.

A duty of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is to promote the conduct the marine scientific research in the international seabed area and support the effective participation of developing States in it. This voluntary commitment aims to fostering cooperation through international and regional scientific communities to promote deep-sea literacy in all States, in particular LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS.
