Join us for this year’s UN World Oceans Day event organized by the International Seabed Authority to celebrate deep-sea exploration and the benefits it brings to humankind.

In 2021, ISA contractor GSR conducted a seafloor mining trial in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone at 4500 m depth. GSR collaborated with BGR and the MiningImpact2 project to ensure independent monitoring of the trial by an international team of scientists. This joint effort is resulting in an unprecedented amount of data and insight to inform the responsible management of seabed resources, including baseline studies, impact assessment and effect predictions, engineering design and environmental monitoring.

10:00-12:00 Webinar | AREA2030: advancing high-resolution mapping of the international seabed area for the benefit of humankind

ISA presents its new initiative AREA2030, which aims at advancing the high-resolution mapping of the international seabed area (the “Area”) to expand knowledge of the deep sea and its environment and inform decision-making processes. AREA2030 is a collective contribution in support of the effective implementation of UNCLOS, the 2030 Agenda and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
