Stakeholder Engagement

ISA is committed to meaningful and informed engagement with all stakeholders in the work of its different organs and the advancement of its mandate. This commitment is reflected in the Strategic Plan and the High-Level Action Plan for the Authority for 2019-2023, adopted by its Members in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

ISA pays particular attention to ensuring the active participation of all stakeholders in its work. In practice, this results in ongoing consultations organized for the development of the draft exploitation regulations, the draft standards and guidelines designed to support the implementation of the exploitation regulations, and other key strategic documents and initiatives, such as the development of the Strategic Plan and High-Level Action Plan for the Authority for 2019-2023 and the development of regional environmental management plans.

It is in this context that a draft Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy has been developed to respond to Strategic Direction 9 (Commit to transparency) and, more specifically, to Strategic Direction 9.4, which calls for the development of a “stakeholder communications and consultation strategy and platform which facilitates open, meaningful and constructive dialogue, including on stakeholder expectations.”

The purpose of this document is to inform and guide ISA’s stakeholders through a detailed presentation of the rules, mechanisms and practices in place through which they can engage in the work of ISA.
