Since 2017, ISA has been actively collaborating with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) to support the efforts of that office to facilitate the coordinated implementation of the programmes developed through the United Nations system to benefit the three groups of countries.

In this context, the three studies prepared by the ISA Secretariat aim at informing the LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS of the benefits offered to them by UNCLOS in relation to deep-sea mineral exploration, marine scientific research and the sharing of future financial and economic benefits from deep-sea minerals.
