The Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) finalized on 20 July 2021 the selection of the five candidates from developing States Members of ISA who will benefit from a training opportunity provided by the Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (Ifremer) in accordance with its obligations under its contract with ISA for the exploration for polymetallic nodules in the Area.

ISA Legal and Technical Commission announces the selection of candidates to benefit from BGR training opportunities

On 20 July 2021, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of candidates for two at-sea training opportunities provided by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources of the Federal Republic of Germany (BGR) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contracts for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

Applications now open for 14 online training opportunities on exploration for polymetallic nodules and polymetallic sulphides with COMRA

Applications are now open for 14 online training opportunities for candidates from developing States Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The placements are provided by China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association (COMRA), in accordance with its obligations under its contracts with ISA for exploration for polymetallic nodules (10 placements) and polymetallic sulphides (4 placements) in the Area.

HLPF 2021 side event discusses the crucial role of ISA in ensuring the sustainable management of the deep seabed and its resources and ISA’s contribution to the 2030 Agenda

Today, the International Seabed Authority (ISA) hosted a side event on “Ensuring the sustainable management and stewardship of the deep seabed and its resources for the benefit of all humanity.” The event, organized in the margins of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2021, was co-sponsored by the Cook Islands, Ghana, Jamaica, Korea, Malta, Norway, Singapore, South Africa and Ifremer (France).

ISA Secretary-General highlights opportunities offered by UNCLOS to spur SDG progress in Africa, LDCs and LLDCs at HLPF event

Invited to attend the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable Development as ministerial respondent in the session on “Restoring the conditions for SDG progress in African Countries, least developed countries and landlocked developing Countries”, the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, highlighted the opportunities opened by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to all developing States including the most vulnerable of them as well as the importance of this treaty for the realization of the socio-economic development objectives.
