The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) will open the first part of its 26th session on 17th February 2020 in Kingston, Jamaica. It is expected that Member States will continue their discussions on the draft regulations for exploitation of mineral resources in the Area, including on the financial terms of contracts.
The 37 members of the ISA Council will also review, amongst other areas, the status of exploration contracts, the implementation of the decisions adopted by the Council at its 25th Session, particularly in relation to the work of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC), and issues relating to the forthcoming election, in 2021, of LTC members.
The first part of the ISA Council will be preceded by the 3rd Meeting of the Open-Ended Ad Hoc Working Group on the financial model from 13 to 14 February, and will be followed by the meeting of the LTC from 24 February to 6 March.
The second part of the 26th Session of the ISA Council will be held in July 2020.
