Twenty-sixth Annual Session of the International Seabed Authority (First Part)

The first part of the 26th session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) convenes in Kingston, Jamaica, and will include meetings of the: ISA Council (17-21 February); and Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) (24 February – 6 March 2020). The Council meeting is preceded by the Open-Ended Ad Hoc Working Group (13-14 February 2020).

ISA Workshop on the Regional Environmental Management Plan for the Area of the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on PMS Deposits

The International Seabed Authority (ISA), in collaboration with the Atlantic Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) Project (funded by European Union), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and All-Russia Scientific Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologia), will convene the Workshop on Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) for the Area of the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on PMS deposits, in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation from 15 to 19 June, 2020.  

ISA international workshop reviews impact of capacity-building programmes and underscores need for a programmatic approach

The first ever international workshop on ‘Capacity development, resources and needs assessment,’ organized by the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica, concluded yesterday with a set of recommendations aimed at improving the delivery and implementation of ISA’s capacity development programmes and initiatives to meet the needs and priorities of developing States, particularly Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Land Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is holding, for the first time ever, an international workshop on “Capacity development, resources and needs assessment” to identify the priority needs of developing States, including Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Land Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in Kingston from 10 to 12 February 2020.

26th Session of ISA Council

The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) will open the first part of its 26th session on 17th February 2020 in Kingston, Jamaica. It is expected that Member States will continue their discussions on the draft regulations for exploitation of mineral resources in the Area, including on the financial terms of contracts.

Urgent call for contributions to the Voluntary Trust Fund to meet the costs of participation of members of the Legal and Technical Commission from developing countries

The Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Mr. Michael W. Lodge has announced with grave concern that, as of 29 January 2020, the Voluntary Trust Fund established to cover the cost of participation by members of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) and the Finance Committee from developing countries stands in negative balance.
