The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) is accepting proposals for consultancy services to undertake a study on the internalization of environmental costs of exploitation activities in the Area in the production costs of minerals from the Area.
Applicants should have the requisite experience and expertise in environmental economics, finance, and accounting. The independent study will aim to assess the value of ecosystem services and natural capital of the Area, as well as the potential environmental costs of activities in the Area, including estimates of monetary value of effects on ecological functions and ecosystem services. The study should include as an appendix a proposed methodology for the economic valuation of environmental costs of an individual mining concession so that such a methodology can be used by applicants for exploitation contracts.
