The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) is seeking a consultant to assist ISA in designing a project framework for the establishment of a pilot demonstration project for long-term ocean observations in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone based on an assessment of existing environmental baseline data and established ocean observing capabilities, with a focus on areas of particular environmental interest.
Applicants should have experience with international networks, initiatives or projects on deep-sea ocean observation. Familiarity with DeepData and its functionalities is desired.
The successful consultant will:
- Identify tools and data requirements to enhance the collection, sharing and use of data for environmental assessment in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone
- Facilitate the development of synergies among existing long-term ocean observation frameworks and exploration activities in the central Pacific Ocean region
- Foster technological innovation and best practices for ocean observation in deep waters in the context of ISA
- Identify opportunities for capacity development and transfer of marine technology for sustained deep ocean observations and synergies within existing ISA initiatives
- Establish a project framework to allow for the implementation of the four objectives described above and propose a roadmap for resource mobilization and partnership engagement.
Applications should be submitted to rfp@isa.org.jm no later than 15 September 2023.
