Applications are now open for candidates from developing States Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) for five training opportunities provided by the Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (Ifremer) in accordance with its obligations under its contract with ISA for the exploration for polymetallic nodules in the Area.

The selected candidates will be invited to participate in the 16th edition of the Deep-Sea Biology Symposium from 12 to 17 of September 2021 in Brest, France. 

The Symposium’s scientific sessions will cover conservation topics and stewardship; biodiversity and ecosystem functioning; life-history traits and population connectivity; technological and methodological advances to access the deep sea, deep-sea biomimicry.  

ISA is calling for candidates holders of a bachelor of science degree in biology, ecology, or microbiology with potentially a first experience in deep-sea biology. Applications from lawyers with a specialization in the law of the sea will also be considered.

Ifremer supports ISA’s Women in Deep-Sea Research project and, as such, strongly encourages qualified women to apply.
