The International Seabed Authority is calling for nominations for two short-term training opportunities in 2013-2014 for suitable candidates from developing States provided by the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR).

The ISA training programme is pursuant to the terms of contract for exploration for polymetallic nodules between the BGR and the Authority .

Members of the Authority are invited to nominate up to two candidates for the programme before the 30 June 2013 deadline. The candidates will then be selected by the Legal and Technical Commission in July 2013.

The At-Sea Exploration training programme is from April to May 2014. The training will be for a duration of approximately 25 working days and will include recovery and processing of sediment samples from a deep-sea environment for nodule resource evaluation and biodiversity studies. The cruise will also offer an opportunity for training in swath-beam bathymetry and sediment echosounding. The trainees will also visit BGR in Hannover for four-weeks as part of their post-cruise training.
