New Ambassador of China presents credentials to the Secretary-General

JAMAICA, Kingston (8 February 2016) – – The newly appointed Ambassador of China to Jamaica,  His Excellency, NIU Qingbao, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Nii Allotey Odunton of the Authority on Thursday, 4 February 2016, as the new Permanent Representative of China to the International Seabed Authority.
    
Ambassador NIU began his career in 1989 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing as Attaché in the Department of North American and Ocean Affairs.  Whilst working at the Ministry he also received periodic overseas postings to Auckland, Australia, and Mumbai.   In 2008 he was appointed Vice Mayor of the Nankai District, Tianjin Municipality.

ISA Commences First Periodic Review

JAMAICA, Kingston (29 January 2016) – – The first periodic review of the manner in which the international regime for the Area has operated in practice has commenced.  The review is being carried out pursuant to article 154 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Chinese Delegation Visits ISA Headquarters

JAMAICA, Kingston (21 November 2015) – – On 19 November 2015,  a six-member Chinese delegation headed by Mr Lu Hao, Chairman of Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of National People’s Congress of China, visited the headquarters of the International Seabed Authority. 

Call for Applications: ISA Contractor Training Programmes

JAMAICA, Kingston (14 November 2015) – – ISA continues its call for applications from candidates from developing countries to attend various ISA Contractor training programmes.The training programmes are pursuant to the terms of the contracts for exploration between the contractors and the International Seabed Authority.
