ISA Legal and Technical Commission opens its 26th Session meetings in Kingston
Ms. Michele Walker of Jamaica was today, re-elected as Chair of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Legal and Technical Commission (LTC), at the opening of the 26th Session meetings of the LTC in Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. Harald Brekke of Norway was re-elected as Vice-Chair of the LTC.
1st Part of the 26th Annual Session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Highlights for Thursday, 20 February 2020
On Thursday, the Council of the International Seabed Authority convened for the third day of the first part of its 26th session (ISA-26) in Kingston, Jamaica. Delegates discussed issues relating to the election of members of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC), adopting a decision to work intersessionally on a resolution of the issue, for a final decision on the LTC elections to be taken at the second part of ISA-26. They also engaged in informal consultations on the working method to address the draft exploitation regulations, facilitated by Kenneth Wong (Canada), agreeing to consider a decision on this matter on Friday, 21 February.

On Wednesday, the Council of the International Seabed Authority convened for the third day of the first part of its 26th session (ISA-26) in Kingston, Jamaica. Delegates discussed aspects related to the draft exploitation regulations, specifically proposals related to regional environmental management plans (REMPs). The Council also discussed issues relating to the election of members of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC).
ISA Secretary-General meets with Ghana and Norway delegations to discuss progress of Africa’s Deep Seabed Resources Project
The Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) today met with the Head of the Delegation of Ghana to ISA and Coordinator of the African Group Mr. Solomon Korbieh, and Mr. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, Head of the Delegation of Norway, to present the latest outcomes of the Africa Deep Seabed Resources (ADSR) project – a joint initiative between ISA, the African Union and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

The 26th Session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) opened in Kingston, Jamaica, yesterday with a focus on the Secretary-General’s report on implementation of decisions adopted by the Council at its 25th Session regarding the work of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC), the development of draft regulations for exploitation of mineral resources, the composition of the LTC, and the status of exploration contracts.

ISA Workshop on the Regional Environmental Management Plan for the Area of the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on PMS Deposits
The International Seabed Authority (ISA), in collaboration with the Atlantic Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) Project (funded by European Union), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and All-Russia Scientific Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologia), will convene the Workshop on Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) for the Area of the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on PMS deposits, in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation from 15 to 19 June, 2020.
