Applications are now open for five (5) at-sea on-board training opportunities for candidates from developing States, Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The placements are provided by Deep Ocean Resources Development Co., Ltd. (DORD), in accordance with its obligations under its contracts for exploration for polymetallic nodules (PMN) with ISA.

Applications are now open for six (6) at-sea on-board training opportunities for candidates from developing States, Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The placements are provided by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (MOF-ROK) in accordance with its obligations under both its contracts for exploration for cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts (CFC) and polymetallic sulphides (PMS) with ISA.

ISA and Ifremer announce deep-sea taxonomy postdoctoral fellow 2022-2024

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the Republic of France and the Institut français de recherche pour l’exploitation de la mer (Ifremer, France) announced on 27 May 2022 the selection of Dr. Ranju Radhakrishnan from India as postdoctoral fellow in deep-sea taxonomy.

ISA-China Joint Training and Research Centre successfully closes its first training workshop

The International Seabed Authority – China Joint Training and Research Center (ISA-China JTRC) successfully closed its first training workshop, which focused on survey and assessment of mineral resources, characteristics of deep-sea ecosystems and environmental management, and the global repository of data from exploration activities in the Area.

ISA announces second edition of Marine Scientific Research Information Webinar Series for Africa with a focus on data management to be hosted on 21 June

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is hosting the second edition of its Marine Scientific Research Information Webinar Series for Africa on 21 June 2022. The webinar will present ISA’s data management strategy, data analytics and their use for marine scientific research in the Area and ISA’s DeepData database. It will also identify ISA’s African Members’ priorities, challenges and future areas of collaboration for facilitating access to and sharing data on the marine environment in the Area, as well as for advancing the development of DeepData.

ISA Legal and Technical Commission announces the selection of four (4) candidates to benefit from the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization training opportunities

On 18 May 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of four (4) candidates for multidisciplinary training opportunities provided by the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

ISA announces new MSR Information Webinar Series for Africa with first edition to be hosted on 16 September

Building on the activities of the Africa’s Deep Seabed Resources (ADSR) project and the identification of specific capacity-building and development needs by African country members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the ISA Secretariat is convening a series of webinars on marine scientific research (MSR) focusing on a wide range of topics, such as mineral resources assessments, environmental management and data management. Representatives of ISA member States in Africa and their experts and practitioners in the relevant fields will be actively engaged.
