ISA Assembly convenes for 29th session

Kingston, Jamaica – 29 July 2024 — The Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) opened its twenty-ninth session today in Kingston, Jamaica. The four-day meeting will run through 2 August, with a break on 1 August to observe Jamaica’s Emancipation Day.

ISA Council concludes second part of 29th session

Kingston, Jamaica – 26 July 2024 — The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) has concluded the second part of its twenty-ninth session, marking significant progress in the development of regulations for the exploitation of mineral resources in the Area.

Ghana, India, Jamaica together with three international research and exploration entities join ISA Call for Action in support of science, technology and innovation for the stewardship of the Area and its resources for the benefit of all humanity

Kingston, Jamaica – 24 July 2024 – The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) welcomes six new signatories of the Global Call for Action to ensure the stewardship of the Area and its resources for the benefit of all humanity through deep-sea science, technology and innovation. The Call for Action was recently signed by Ghana, India and Jamaica, as well as by Blue Minerals Jamaica Limited (BMJ), the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM) and the Kobe Ocean-Bottom Exploration Centre (KOBEC).

ISA Council resumes work under Part II of the 29th session

Kingston, Jamaica, 15 July 2024 — The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) resumed its discussions today under Part II of the 29th session. The meetings of the Council are set to continue until 26 July 2024 with several key agenda items. The primary focus will be on advancing negotiations on the draft regulations for the exploitation of mineral resources in the Area, with the aim of finalizing the first reading of the consolidated text.

Statement of the ISA Secretariat in response to the New York Times article of 4 July 2024

Kingston, Jamaica, 8 July 2024 — Following the publication of an article in the New York Times on 4 July 2024[1]  making reference to allegations of various financial irregularities in the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the ISA Secretariat feels compelled to make the following comments on the substance of the allegations made and the release to the media of confidential information about ISA personnel.
