ISA High-Level event held at 2022 UNOC reinforces importance for increased international and regional cooperation in support of the sustainable development of ocean-based economies of the most vulnerable countries

On 29 June 2022, the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in partnership with Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Cook Islands, Malta, Norway, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Tonga, the African Union, the Pacific Community and IORA hosted a high-level side event on the margins of the 2022 UN Ocean Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal. This high-level event was the opportunity to discuss concrete actions towards fostering international and regional cooperation in support of the sustainable development of ocean-based economy of LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS.[1]

ISA Secretary-General underscores the importance of cooperation and partnerships in support of women empowerment and capacity development for the most vulnerable countries at UNOC 2022

On 28 June 2022, the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, underscored the importance of strategic partnerships towards transformative actions in support of women empowerment and leadership in marine scientific research, especially in technical and emerging fields of ocean science and engineering such as deep-sea research.

On World Oceans Day 2022, ISA highlights the contribution of deep-sea exploration to the achievement of the goals and targets of Agenda 2030

During a virtual event held on World Oceans Day on 8 June 2022, the International Seabed Authority (ISA) highlighted the contributions of exploration contractors and the scientific community and the data and information they collect in the international seabed area (the Area) in support of the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

ISA and Ifremer announce deep-sea taxonomy postdoctoral fellow 2022-2024

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the Republic of France and the Institut français de recherche pour l’exploitation de la mer (Ifremer, France) announced on 27 May 2022 the selection of Dr. Ranju Radhakrishnan from India as postdoctoral fellow in deep-sea taxonomy.
