DEADLINE EXTENDED – ISA and UNTBLDC call for an expression of interest from government officials from Nepal and Tanzania to apply for a three-month deployment with the ISA Secretariat

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) calls for expression of interest from experts working for the governments of Tanzania and Nepal to apply for a three-month deployment with the ISA Secretariat in Kingston, Jamaica, until 15 September 2023 30 September 2023.

ISA Partnership Fund unlocks USD382,000 to support projects to advance the global deep-sea research agenda in support of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, women’s empowerment and leadership and the capacity of developing States particularly LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS

The Partnership Fund Board of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) has completed the selection of projects to be funded in 2023 during its first meeting held on 1 June. This is the first of two batches of projects to be supported by the newly created ISA Partnership Fund (ISAPF) every year.

The 28th session of the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) closed on 28 July 2023 after five days of meetings in Kingston, Jamaica. The meeting was presided over by H.E. Mr. Alhaji Fanday Turay, former Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations and upcoming Minister for Transportation and Aviation of Sierra Leone.

ISA and WoRMS release a species checklist for the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Sustainable Seabed Knowledge Initiative

During a side event on the margins of the 28th session of the Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) on 19 July 2023 celebrating the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Sustainable Seabed Knowledge Initiative (SSKI), ISA and the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) introduced a species checklist for the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ) in the Pacific Ocean.

ISA Council closes Part II of its 28th session

The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) closed the meetings of Part II of its 28th session on Friday, 21 July 2023. The Council met in person for ten days. A total of 32 of the 36 Members of the Council were in attendance, along with 23 other Members and 20 observers. The negotiations of the draft regulations on the exploitation of mineral resources in the Area (ISBA/25/C/WP.1) remained the main item on the agenda. The Council also continued to discuss other important matters, including the operationalization of the Enterprise.
