Applications are now open for six (6) at-sea on-board training opportunities for candidates from developing States, Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The placements are provided by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (MOF-ROK) in accordance with its obligations under both its contracts for exploration for cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts (CFC) and polymetallic sulphides (PMS) with ISA.

On 21 June 2022, Dr. Raijeli L. Taga (Fiji), facilitator of the informal working group on the protection and preservation of the marine environment established by the ISA Council, will host a webinar to discuss the Environmental Compensation Fund for activities in the Area.

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is hosting the second edition of its Marine Scientific Research Information Webinar Series for Africa on 21 June 2022. The webinar will present ISA’s data management strategy, data analytics and their use for marine scientific research in the Area and ISA’s DeepData database. It will also identify ISA’s African Members’ priorities, challenges and future areas of collaboration for facilitating access to and sharing data on the marine environment in the Area, as well as for advancing the development of DeepData.

On 18 May 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of four (4) candidates for multidisciplinary training opportunities provided by the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

Building on the activities of the Africa’s Deep Seabed Resources (ADSR) project and the identification of specific capacity-building and development needs by African country members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the ISA Secretariat is convening a series of webinars on marine scientific research (MSR) focusing on a wide range of topics, such as mineral resources assessments, environmental management and data management. The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is seeking comments on the draft regional environmental management plan (REMP) for the area of the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on polymetallic sulphide deposits.

On 15 March 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of candidates for four (4) online training opportunities provided by China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association (COMRA) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic sulphides with ISA.
