ISA Legal and Technical Commission announces the selection of candidates to benefit from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation training opportunities

On 17 February 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of seven (7) candidates for training opportunities provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation in accordance with its obligations under its respective exploration contracts for polymetallic sulphides and cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts with ISA. The selected candidates are divided as follows:

Informal working group on the protection and preservation of the marine environment to hold a webinar to present and exchange views on the text of the facilitator

On 28 February 2022, Dr. Raijeli L. Taga (Fiji), facilitator of the informal working group on the protection and preservation of the marine environment, will host a webinar to present her suggested revised text for Parts IV and VI and Annexes IV, VII and VIII of the draft regulations on exploitation of mineral resources in the Area (ISBA/27/C/IWG/ENV/CRP.1). Following the presentation, members and observers of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) will have the opportunity to share their views on the proposed text.

Call for proposals for a consultancy on M&E frameworks for the implementation of ISA’s mandates in marine scientific research and capacity development

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is seeking a consultant with requisite experience in monitoring and evaluation of complex development projects with national or international organization or related fields to support the implementation of its programmatic mandates in the fields of marine scientific research and capacity development.

Deadline extended to 31 January for seven training opportunities provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation

The deadline to apply for seven training opportunities provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) of the Russian Federation for candidates from developing States Members of ISA has been extended to 31 January 2022 instead of an initial date of 25 August 2021 and an extended date of 3 January 2022.

ISA Legal and Technical Commission announces the selection of additional candidates to benefit from the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India training opportunities

On 15 December 2021, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of seven additional candidates for a seven-week online training course being provided by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) of the Government of India in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules with ISA. The selected candidates are:
