Applications are now open for seven (7) internship opportunities for candidates from developing States, Members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The placements are provided by the Institut français de recherche pour l’exploitation de la mer (Ifremer) in accordance with its obligations under its contracts for exploration for polymetallic nodules (PMN) and polymetallic sulphides (PMS) with ISA.

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is seeking comments on the draft regional environmental management plan (REMP) for the area of the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge with a focus on polymetallic sulphide deposits.

On 18 March 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of one (1) candidate for an at-sea training opportunity provided by Nauru Ocean Resources Inc (NORI) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

On 15 March 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of candidates for four (4) online training opportunities provided by China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association (COMRA) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic sulphides with ISA.

On 17 February 2022, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of seven (7) candidates for training opportunities provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation in accordance with its obligations under its respective exploration contracts for polymetallic sulphides and cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts with ISA. On 28 February 2022, Dr. Raijeli L. Taga (Fiji), facilitator of the informal working group on the protection and preservation of the marine environment, will host a webinar to present her suggested revised text for Parts IV and VI and Annexes IV, VII and VIII of the draft regulations on exploitation of mineral resources in the Area (ISBA/27/C/IWG/ENV/CRP.1). Following the presentation, members and observers of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) will have the opportunity to share their views on the proposed text.
