The ISA-China Joint Training and Research Centre Opens Fourth Workshop on Cumulative Impact Assessment in Sanya, Hainan

Sanya, Hainan, China – 29 May 2026 – The International Seabed Authority (ISA)-China Joint Training and Research Centre (ISA-China JTRC) officially inaugurated its fourth training workshop today in Sanya, China. The workshop, titled “Cumulative Impact Assessment for Effective Protection of the Marine Environment in the Area: Methods, Case Studies, and Best Practices,” brings together 21 selected participants from developing countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and members of ISA’s Legal and Technical Commission (LTC), who are serving as lecturers and facilitators throughout the ten-day programme.

The Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas presents Credentials to the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority

Kingston, 16 March 2026 — Her Excellency Mrs. Alveta Adderley-Knight presented her credentials to the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), Ms. Leticia Carvalho, as Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the International Seabed Authority, during a ceremony held on 16 March 2026 at ISA Headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica.

In Memoriam: His Excellency Mr. Juan José González Mijares

Kingston, Jamaica – 13 March 2026 – It is with profound sadness that I learned of the passing of His Excellency Mr. Juan José González Mijares, former Ambassador of Mexico to Jamaica and The Bahamas and former Permanent Representative to the International Seabed Authority.

His Excellency Mr. Juan Jose Gonzalez Mijares, served as President of 28th Session of the ISA Council in 2023.

Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority and the Government of Cameroon Open the Inaugural In-Person African Academy for Deep Sea Diplomacy Workshop in Yaoundé

Yaoundé, Cameroon, 9 February 2026 – the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), Leticia Carvalho, in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, officially opened the inaugural in-person week-long training workshop for the African Academy for Deep Sea Diplomacy (ADSEA) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, hosted by the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC). The opening reception included immense fanfare from Cameroon, including the attendance of Cameroon government officials, Dr. Daniel Urbain Ndongo, Director of IRIC; Mr. Oumarou Chinmoun, Secretary-General, Ministry of External Relations; Professor Aleian Didier Olinger; and H.E. Mr. Tommo Monthe, Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the ISA.
